When I was in grade school, we took a field trip to the Ringling Museum of Art (https://www.ringling.org) in Sarasota Florida. I recall being in awe of the enormous and vivid Peter Paul Rubens in the first gallery. Our teacher called him one of "The Masters of Art”.
I was raised by a "Master of Art" myself, though my mother had not painted anything quite as large as the Rubens at that point. I did love watching her paint and seeing everyone oooh and aaah at her work. She belonged to a local small town art guild and would do the occasional art show; even the Governor of the State of Florida wanted one her pieces.
During these art shows, I got to look at all of the various artists works and learned that what is art is not the same thing for everyone. What was the same however, was the passion and zeal that each individual brought to their version of their art.
Passion: strong and barely controllable emotion.
Zeal: great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.
The excitement shared between the artists and with the public discussing the different styles and various pieces on display was palatable even as young as I was. There was a sense of accomplishment in the air that I wanted to feel for myself. I wanted to create something original from my mind and with my own capabilities.
Creating art in all of its forms for me is an adventure in expressing the emotion or thought of a moment with excitement and energy. I love to challenge myself and stretch my capabilities whether it is painting, photography, or writing. I do not limit myself in style or even in my own expectations. I enjoy playing with the randomness of slapping paint on canvas to see what evolves from it, similar to a moment in time like a sunrise that is breathtaking and I have to stop what I am doing to capture and share it.
I am always excited and passionate about the creative process of bringing something to life. To evoke an emotion from someone with a creation of my own is what I strive for. I may never paint anything as large or well known as the Rubens at the Ringling Museum and my photography may not end up in National Geographic or Time Magazine, but I am sharing what I create in as many forms as I can with today’s art marketplace and technologies.
